#Colombia Rising, English Demand (too!)

Colombia is now a darling of international investors.

As a South American "tiger," Colombia is enjoying a rise in commodity prices.

In addition, the "Prosperity Highway" infrastructure mega-project is expected to drive demand for labor and raw materials.

Increased Demand for English
As Colombia opens its doors to international investors, including the recently enacted Free Trade Agreement with the United States, the workforce needs better English skills.

Colombian companies seeking greater capital flows need employees to market and negotiate their wares.

University graduates who can offer Business English fluency to international firms in Medellin have wider employment opportunities.

Conclusion
English is the language of international business.

As Colombia continues to grow and attracts international investment, the need for sharper English skills increases as well.

Are you ready to participate in the economic boom?

What is jargon? Pt 2 Business Jargon

It is sometimes impossible to find clear Business English expression in corporate board rooms.

Jargon (as explained in a previous article) is used and abused very often.

How many times have you said "goal oriented?"

Has a colleague asked you to "buy into" the marketing plan or a change in business policy?

Forbes magazine has compiled a list of 45 "most annyoing terms of business jargon."

Enjoy!

What is jargon? Pt 1

Jargon is the specific vocabulary, peculiar to a particular trade, profession, or group.

Lawyers, doctors, mechanics, and yes, even teachers, have their own vocabuarly particular to their profession.

Business jargon - a very wide world of terms - is discussed in a later article.

In technology, for example, terms like "game-changing," "mission-critical," and "award-winning" are used throughout the industry.

Beware in using and abusing jargon though. Use it only with those in your particular industry because the rest of us will not have a clue what you are talking about, usually.
